Case A-lehdet

Additional resources for maintenance and development help business to grow

The A-lehdet Group wanted to ease the pressure on their organisation and enable the growth of their digital business at the same time. They signed a cooperation agreement with Digia on a Support and Maintenance Service and the minor and further development of their website. A total of 16 A-lehdet sites are now covered by Digia’s support service.

Benefits:

  • The concentration of support services facilitates site maintenance.
  • Consultancy consolidates technical competence within the organisation.
  • The organisation is capable of more efficient business development and growth when maintenance is outsourced to an expert partner.

Additional resources for maintenance and development help business to grow

A-lehdet Group, a Finnish media company, wanted to ease the pressure on their organisation and thus enable the growth of their digital business. They decided to transfer their websites to Digia’s support service. We also agreed that Digia would help with the further development of the websites.

A-lehdet have an extensive portfolio of online services, with sites principally implemented with various versions of Drupal and the WordPress content management system. The maintenance and further development of this portfolio requires a great deal of resources, which are also sorely needed for designing new digital services.

In the spring of 2016, A-lehdet signed a cooperation agreement with Digia on a Support and Maintenance Service and the minor and further development of their website. The main objective of the cooperation was to ease the pressure on A-lehdet’s own organisation, freeing it to fully focus on the growth of the Group’s digital business in the form of new services. At the same time, however, they wanted to ensure that the Group’s online services would remain in good hands and that expert assistance would be available in the event of faults or incidents.

The second, more long-term aim was to use Digia’s consultants to consolidate technical competencies within the organisation of A-lehdet.

Starting point determined through a technical audit

Before the websites of A-lehdet were moved under the support services of Digia, we carried out a technical audit of the sites to determine the technologies used, servers, level of information security and version management, among other things.

A-lehdet were added to Digia’s support workflow and ticketing system, through which we react to incidents. The agreement covers the maintenance of 16 websites, along with the required updates, monitoring and minor development.

In addition, Digia’s software developers take an active part in the further development of A-lehdet’s online services, such as the Lily.fi site.

New tools facilitate maintenance

Our cooperation is ongoing, and the portfolio of A-lehdet remains under the maintenance of Digia. The tools introduced by Digia make the entire portfolio easier to manage and administer.

We added new functionalities to the Lily.fi site and improved existing ones. In addition, we introduced A-lehdet’s in-house developers to new tools that make previously time-consuming processes quicker.

A-lehdet has been very satisfied with their cooperation with Digia.

“The cooperation has been very smooth, and we have been extremely impressed with the expertise of Digia’s consultants”, says Arto Seppänen, Director of Development at A-lehdet.

Digia continues to provide support and maintenance services for A-lehdet and offer development resources, such as for the blog portal Lily.fi (Drupal platform), where Digia’s developers have assisted A-lehdet’s in-house technical team with service architecture optimisation.
