Organizations in the social welfare and healthcare sector are subject to an archiving act that requires them to store certain customer and patient information permanently. This has led to a situation in which customer information is stored in numerous different information systems that are now only maintained for archival purposes.
“DigiFinland develops national digital solutions that improve the impactfulness of social welfare and healthcare. We identified the problem of archiving old data and started looking for a solution that would allow us to transfer data from approximately 850 disused systems to a national archive of old data”, explains DigiFinland’s Director of Development Programmes Jenny Vuollet.

Archiving saves money, improves the usability of data and increases data security
“The archiving of old data is part of a national ICT overhaul programme, and DigiFinland wants to offer wellbeing services counties a solution. The archiving won’t only bring savings, it will also improve data security and make the data more usable”, Vuollet continues.
Digia’s robotics-based service concept is unique and has been utilised in a number of different industries for several years now. An out-of-the-box concept and a platform based on open source technology make for an extremely competitive and cost-effective package.
“Our service concept allows for data to be retrieved from all necessary sources, regardless of the age of the source system or the technology used. It can also be directly applied to other automation and data transfer needs, which we expect to see plenty of now that the wellbeing service counties are being set up, as well as in their future daily operations and the development of those operations”, explains Head of Digia’s robotics services Olli Ainasvuori.
Project preparations have begun, and the service will be available to the new wellbeing service counties over the course of the coming years.
