A state-of-the-art webshop that is integrated into back-end systems is becoming vital for growth in many fields of business. Rakentajan Sarokas Oy, the Turku-based hardware and interior decoration company, carried out a large-scale webshop overhaul with Digia that enables it develop its operations and provide better customer service.

“Our aim was to modernise our webshop so that it can compete with our peers. We wanted a versatile and user-friendly system that will help improve the customer experience,” says Juha Jääskeläinen, who heads up Rakentajan Sarokas Oy’s webshop business.

Substantial time savings

Sarokas is known as a design hardware shop. It is a Finnish family-owned company that offers high-quality construction and interior decoration products. In addition to high-quality products, the company focuses on expert customer service. Its only brick-and-mortar store is located in Turku. It sells products all over Finland through its webshop.

Before the modernisation, the webshop was a separate solution. Products, prices, orders and campaigns were fed manually into it. The new solution has thoroughly revolutionised the company’s product management for the better.

“We now use only a fraction of the time we used to on product data management and pricing. We can even change all product information at once.  We don’t even necessarily need to do that, because data is transferred automatically between the ERP system and webshop,” says Jääskeläinen.

Sarokas’ new webshop is implemented with Magento 2 technology, which integrates seamlessly into existing back-end systems. The company now has a scalable, state-of-the-art solution that is flexible and evolves in line with its needs.

The solution makes it possible to set up automated solutions, and hardly any manual work is required. It sends out marketing emails and shopping basket reminders automatically.

“We now have the tools to build our shop into a highly effective solution with an eye on the future,” says Jääskeläinen.

Focus on the customer experience

Proactive sales and marketing are vital for the success of a webshop. Sarokas’ new webshop solution makes it easy to carry out visibility and marketing measures. Campaigns can be set up for the desired product groups, automated and repeated as necessary.

“This solution was developed to support business growth and from the perspective of improving the customer experience,” says Jääskeläinen.

Customers benefit from the solution in many ways. The shop is now more responsive and works on all devices. The products are better displayed and easier to find in the webshop. Customers can now more easily search for products in accordance with certain characteristics.

Payment and credit features are smooth thanks to the Klarna service. The customer’s information is automatically stored in the system for their next shopping visit. Product prices and campaign discounts are kept up to date both online and in the store.

The solution makes it possible to set up automated solutions, and hardly any manual work is required.

Sarokas’ new webshop was launched in November 2017. The system is being updated one step at a time in line with plans. The next step is to build a second version that will boast an even better customer experience, customisation and special features.
