Greater efficiency for work and study with a role-based intranet

Digia tailored a new publication system for the University of Helsinki, the Flamma portal, which is one of the largest intranet services in Finland.

The University of Helsinki’s strategy for 2007-2009 included developing an inspiring, supportive and rewarding work and learning environment. In addition, its communications policy sought to develop internal communications and related channels in support of community spirit, interaction, and management. These goals served as the basis for the new electronic desktop project.

Content production solution was implemented agilely in phases

Digia’s customer solution for the University of Helsinki was implemented agilely in phases. The first phase comprised the implementation of a customised publication tool for content production. The tool was designed to be user-friendly and boost efficiency in content production. It can also be used in the production of content for public Internet pages.

In the next phase, the old intranet of the University of Helsinki, Alma, was revamped and launched as the Flamma portal, one of the largest intranet services in Finland. The development of Flamma progressed in phases; the beta was launched in August 2012 and the portal went officially online in October 2012.

Praise for clarity, efficiency for internal communications

The solution provided by Digia has enhanced the efficiency of the tools and operating processes in the university’s internal communications. The Flamma electronic desktop brings together university content and services, presents news and events, and is integrated into various background systems.

Flamma’s user base has warmly welcomed the new intranet. They have heaped praise especially on its strong visual design, colourfulness and clarity. In addition, they have been pleased by Flamma’s numerous personalisation and customisation options. The users feel that Flamma provides a smooth user experience and presents content clearly.
