Digital services for the defence industry require long-term development, scalability and ensured operational reliability and data security. Digia is a reputable, secure and reliable Finnish software and service provider. Digia has two decades of experience working with defence industry clients as well as in innovating, developing and producing digital services in accordance with the sector's stringent security critical requirements. For example, the Finnish Defence Forces are a longstanding client and close partner of Digia.

“We take pride in our expertise and professionals in the defence industry sector and our ability to provide critical digital services over the long term. For example, we have been a service provider for the Finnish Defence Forces for two decades: The future of our partnership over the next 20 years is at the core of Digia’s built-in service model and attitude,” says Sami Paihonen, Senior Vice President, Intelligent Solutions at Digia.

“Digia's organisation already has more than 130 experts with a security clearance, with new ones added as needed. Several dozens of top experts work full time in the defence industry, bringing the latest expertise to the sector. We are also determined in our efforts to build a Finnish network of professionals in different areas of expertise. Through the Digia Hub competence centre, we provide our experience and expertise for the defence industry under the theme “Together we are more”,” Paihonen adds.

”As digitalisation and digital services are constantly evolving, it is important to be both an extremely reliable service provider as well as also a visionary. The best way to do this is by pooling our top specialists and expertise in the sector into one unit. The Defence unit was created because we believe bringing together key experts of defence industry solutions to be a source of synergy and new drive and opportunities for development for the entire sector, and in order to promote growth and increase the pool of professionals for the Finnish defence industry both domestically and internationally,” says Jussi Tammelin, Director of Digia’s Defence Unit.

Digia’s new Defence Unit began its operations in early May 2022.

Beating ticket system challenges with the aid of machine learning

In the Finnish Defence Forces, up to 5,000 online support and service requests are made and resolved every month using a ticket-based system. However, service requests do not always get sent to the correct address. With the aid of funding from the Ministry of Finance, Digia and the Finnish Defence Forces Service Centre implementeda pilot in which machine learning and text analysis were used to automatically resolve and categorise tickets.
