As companies are digitalising their businesses, the number of systems and networks will increase. Integration capability is one of the most important factors enabling digitalisation, and there is an increasing demand for integration experts. However, universities providing IT education in Finland do not offer education in integration skills to the extent that would be required, which is why Digia as the leading integration house in Finland is offering a free training programme for future integration experts.
Digia is organising this compact training programme for the third time in September. The training takes place on four evenings. Each year, Integration Academy focuses on integration tools through some current theme. This year, participants will have the opportunity to implement e-commerce integrations with background systems by using modern tools. In particular, this year’s Academy will focus on new cloud-based integration platforms. The applied technologies include Dell Boomi, Azure Logic Apps, IBM DataPower and IBM API Connect.
Integrations impact the customer experience in online shopping
E-commerce is a topical example of how integrations have a concrete effect on the service that is visible externally. If data from background systems is not being updated, the service that end users see is not working. Defective integrations are one of the key issues for online shops that are not functioning as they should.
“We all know the feeling when the stock availability that you have checked from an online shop does not reflect the availability in the shop premises, or when the service path ends abruptly. In the worst-case scenario, such experiences cause companies to lose customers,” says Timo Halima, Business Director, Commerce at Digia.
“In this year’s academy, we will use an e-commerce case to concretise the importance of integrations. The participants will have an opportunity to implement on an e-commerce platform integration solutions that will have an effect on the functioning of an imaginary online shop,” says Ville Fernelius, Director, Integration and API Management at Digia.
Integrations are required for business renewal and service development. The data that companies accumulate in their systems and the utilisation of such data are key for service development.
“The primary task of an online shop is to manage customer encounters online in such a manner that companies can get involved in the customers' purchasing and ordering process at the earliest possible stage with relevant content and services. This requires that background systems and processes have strong integration and the data and logics provided by them are utilised,” says Halima.
Digia Integration Academy offers an extensive overview of integration tools and techniques, as well as an opportunity to use modern tools to create integrations in an e-commerce environment. The training programme is a starting point, after which participants have the opportunity to begin working with integrations and expand their skillset in a hands-on manner.
