Currently, 70 percent of public transport ticket sales in the Helsinki metropolitan area are made through the mobile application. With daily purchases totaling around one million euros, the HSL app is one of the largest online stores in Finland.
Under the new agreement, HSL will continue to acquire experts from Digia for the development team working on the backend system of the HSL app. This backend system manages various ticket types and payment transactions.
Digia has long been a partner in developing and maintaining the HSL app. Recently, Digia and HSL expanded their collaboration to include data transfer and communication through the development of API interfaces.
Major Overhaul of Ticketing Backend Systems
HSL is currently carrying out a major overhaul of its ticketing backend systems and transitioning to an account-based ticketing model.

Continuous customer-oriented development of the mobile app is important to HSL. The development roadmap for the HSL app includes many exciting updates. According to the product vision, the HSL app will become a helpful and proactive travel companion, enabling seamless and responsible travel.
