The new system yields transparency
The State Treasury wanted a data warehouse in which data on loans and guarantees granted with State funds would be more easily available and in which the background calculations for the reports would be more transparent.
The State Treasury’s earlier data warehouse system, Lappi, was replaced with an entirely new system: Halti. It was implemented with Microsoft SQL Server technology and the Data Vault solution, which enables better scalability and receiving more extensive amounts of data from source systems. The architectural solutions of this state-of-the-art data warehouse give users freer hands to produce reports and greater transparency with regard to the accuracy of the results.
The implementation method ensures, for instance, that the data warehouse receives more usable data, the reports are unambiguous, and the system produces more accurate calculations and financial figures.
“The greatest challenge in the data warehouse project was to standardise reporting on loans and guarantees granted over the decades. The ability of Digia’s expert consultants to model different kinds of financial instruments and produce a functional data warehouse for reporting was vital for the success of the project.” Santtu Seppälä, State Treasury, Finance, Head of Information Management.
