Digia's new office in Kamppi, Helsinki has opened – the new facilities support a hybrid work model based on freedom of choice

Renewed office spaces are a significant part of Digia's hybrid work model, which is based on the both-and principle: Employees are free to choose their workplace based on the needs of their work and community. At the same time, functional office solutions are emphasized for encounters. Intelligent technology is central to managing hybrid work and building community.

Digia's work model will continue to combine on-site and remote work. We believe it is crucial that every digian has the freedom to choose where to work.

"Companies make decisions based on their own premises. For us, a hybrid model that allows for extensive flexibility works. Digia has continued its profitable growth. We have achieved our ninth consecutive year of profitable growth, and the last quarter of 2024 was the best in our history in terms of both revenue and EBITA operating profit. At the same time, the eNPS metric, which measures employee experience, has continuously improved and is at a very good level. Employee surveys highlight that our experts value flexibility. Against this background, one could conclude that the overall approach works and the choices made regarding the work model have been correct at this point in time," says HR Director Pia Huhdanmäki.

Digia has renovated its premises in several locations to meet the demands of hybrid work, and now it's Helsinki's turn.

In Helsinki, we will operate with a two-office model going forward. A new office opened in the heart of Helsinki on February 24th in the Kampin Huippu building. The other office will remain in Pitäjänmäki, which as a location serves a portion of the Helsinki area employees excellently. The Pitäjänmäki facilities will be consolidated and renovated during the spring.

Of Digia's over 1,500 employees, about half, or just over 700 people, are in the Helsinki area.

Digia's Model is Both-And, and Smart Technology Supports Community

The challenge, alongside of the benefits, of the hybrid era is the dispersion of teams, work practices, and the community. Pia Huhdanmäki emphasizes that meeting each other is needed in addition to a flexible remote routine.

"With freedom comes the responsibility to ensure that we also meet and maintain connections with colleagues in everyday life. Considering the community's needs in addition to one's own routine is a work-life skill in the hybrid era. No one builds a community alone," says Huhdanmäki.

"The goal is for Digia's renovated premises to support expert work so well that Digia employees find it natural and pleasant to choose the office as their work environment regularly. This means spaces suitable for different types of work and work phases, facilitate meetings, and support community," says Digia’s CFO Kristiina Simola, who is responsible for premises.

Intelligent technology helps build community. In the new spaces, an application assists in planning remote and on-site days, making meeting colleagues and collaborating with teams easier. This way, meaningful encounters are not left to chance. The system also collects analytics on space utilization and the number of remote and on-site days at a statistical level.

On the other hand, a community can also be built online, utilizing the possibilities of intelligent technology.

"We believe that a good work routine consists of a balance between flexible remote work and office days. Data helps develop spaces and working methods that support a good work routine," says Huhdanmäki.
