Digia systematically develops an equal and diverse work community
On Sunday, 19.3.2023, Minna Canth's and Equality Day will be celebrated. At Digia, promoting equality and diversity is vital to corporate responsibility. The work to develop it is carried out systematically with the help of the Equality group and plan.
Digia employs more than 1400 experts, and our professional community is Digia's most important success factor. We want our employees to enjoy working at Digia, and together we are actively developing our modern and attractive work community. Diversity has a special role in this.
"Digia wants to offer everyone a safe and healthy working environment where everyone is valued as themselves. Digia's direct impacts on personnel, social responsibility and human rights are employee well-being, equality and equal treatment. That is why the Equality group was established in Digia in 2022. The group also prepares and monitors the implementation of our equality plan", says Pia Huhdanmäki, Digia's Senior Vice President, HR, Culture and Sustainability.
Digia has 5 equality topics and focus areas and about 40 identified issues, everyday actions that affect their realization:
- Fostering a culture of mutual respect
- Recruitment and inclusion of non-Finnish speakers in everyday life and resourcing
- Steady distribution of genders and encouragement of women into the IT sector
- Fostering a culture of mutual respect
- Balance between work and family life and other leisure time
"During 2022, we organized once again, e.g. diversity, equity and inclusion training for the management team, business leaders, supervisors and all interested Digians. The topics were inclusive leadership and working in diverse teams. We have continued the work to encourage women to enter the IT industry by, for example, cooperating with Mimmit koodaa program. We also conducted a pay equality survey", says Liisa Onninen, Digia's HR Business Partner.
The employment of experts of all ages has been promoted, for example, by piloting and implementing the Konkarit training, which is for personnel approaching retirement age, and through the Career Compass program for students studying in the field. There is also a desire to invest in bilingualism, as it is hoped that the work community will grow and become more international.
"Through the Equality group's work, it has become evident how wide an area the promotion of equality is. We have taken significant steps to raise basic awareness, but our journey and development continues. On the Day of Equality, we will open a survey for our personnel, based on which we will once again draw up an action plan for Digia for the new strategy period", Onninen says.
