Finnish Immigration Service chooses Digia as its partner in specialist and support services

The Finnish Immigration Service put IT services for immigration matters out to tender and selected Digia, a software and service company, to be responsible for the specialist and support services of the digital case management system for immigration matters (UMA). The value of the three-year framework agreement is EUR 5–10 million.

The Finnish Immigration Service's digital case management system supports smooth and controlled immigration and contributes to Finland's internal security. In addition to the Finnish Immigration Service, the system is also used by other authorities, such as the police, the Finnish Border Guard, and Finnish missions.

“We want to develop the digital case management and services system of immigration administration, which is a key tool in our decision-making. Through competitive tendering, we acquired specialist services for maintaining and developing the digital case management system for immigration matters (UMA), information pool and services", says Tarmo Jukarainen, CIO of the Finnish Immigration Service.

Digia's role as a partner in specialist and support services for the digital case management system is to support the Finnish Immigration Service in planning operating models and data security solutions, architectural renewal, quality assurance, and service migration, among other things.

"The Finnish Immigration Service plays a central and topical role in our society. We are very happy to be able to start such effective cooperation, and the Finnish Immigration Service chose us to support their transformation journey, where systems and services are developed to be more user-friendly and cost-effective", says Digia´s Senior Vice President Janne Tuominen.

“Our expertise and experience with socially significant organisations enables the agency to have just the right team to support it. We are a long-term business development partner for our customers. We can now help the Finnish Immigration Service succeed in this multi-level change project, improve productivity and use digital capabilities cost-effectively", Tuominen continues.

"Digia is a solution-oriented and innovative partner that helps us achieve our goal. We aim to create a modern, secure and easily maintained set of systems that can be flexibly modified so that we can meet the needs of customers, employers and other relevant parties", Jukarainen adds.

Working together to build an intelligent society and a more sustainable future

The Finnish Immigration Service makes permit decisions in matters related to immigration, asylum, refugee status and citizenship and runs the reception system of Finland.

The agency provides customer-oriented and people-centred services that promote the functioning and competitiveness of Finnish society. It also provides expert and information services to support political decision-making and national and international cooperation.

"Digia combines the possibilities of technology and people's capabilities to build intelligent business and society and a sustainable future. The cooperation now starting is an excellent example of this", Tuominen says.
