“Our core expertise lies in asset management services and especially in solutions focused on real assets, including funds investing in forests, real estate, and renewable energy. The old system was tailored for private investors and included many customized features, so we started the project with a thorough evaluation process to explore different options. Digia’s STS solution and previous implementations convinced us, so we decided to build the renewal on a modular architecture,” says United Bankers COO Jarkko Saukkola.

Deep integrations in and out

According to Saukkola, the old solution raised performance concerns that were seen as a potential barrier to growth. That’s why the new system was designed to cover all business-critical functions, with seamless interaction ensured through deep integrations.

“Digia’s solution now supports all our core asset management processes from front to back end – and everything in between, including client reporting. In practice, this means the application is strongly integrated with separate trading systems, fund platforms, and our company’s back-office systems. And based on experience, the whole setup works very well.”

More automation and smoother workflows

According to Saukkola, the benefits of the system renewal are most visible to clients in improved portfolio and client-level reporting and enhanced features in the OmaUB service. However, the most significant improvements impact the daily work of the internal team, which has become easier in many ways.

“When we have one reliable system with integrations in every direction and smart reporting solutions, it truly makes work run smoothly. In addition, we have automated processes related to fund orders, and now tasks such as creating instruments and corporate actions are handled automatically – and far more efficiently.”

The new dashboard became the cherry on top

The collaboration between Digia and United Bankers – and the defined product scope – did not originally include a dashboard solution that combines events and data. However, it was built during the renewal project, and Saukkola gives special thanks to the team for that.

“When we look at the entire long project, we knew we would face challenges. And while they did come, the spirit of the project remained positive throughout. The quality and scope of testing were particularly impressive. Nearly 1,200 highly professional test cases were created during the project, and even in the acceptance phase, about 800 were still executed. On top of everything, the Digia Portfolio Dashboard introduced alongside other work has become a key tool for us in client interactions and portfolio management. Without it, we could not have gone live – and certainly not on a satisfactory schedule.”
