Digia joins the DEFINE network – innovations support the growth of the Defence business
The national network brings together top experts and companies in the defence and security sector. The aim is to develop new defence innovations to meet the needs of the Finnish Defence Forces and NATO, and to create growth and jobs in Finland.
Software and service company Digia has started a cooperation with the Defence Innovation Network Finland (DEFINE) and is strengthening the network's operations, in particular through data, AI, and integration expertise.
DEFINE is a national cooperation network launched by the City of Riihimäki to develop defence and security expertise and create new innovations. The network brings together top experts and companies in the field and promotes the use of civilian solutions to meet the needs of the Defence Forces and NATO.
"We want to be actively involved in developing expertise and solutions in the defence and security sector. We bring our strong expertise in data-driven and AI-supported operations, as well as the integrations of demanding system entities into the network. The cooperation supports our growth targets and our role as a trusted partner of the Finnish Defence Forces. Through DEFINE, we will be able to engage in even more diverse development work," says Tero Palokangas, Vice President, Defence & Security at Digia.
"During this year, we have expanded into a national operator. We want to create growth and jobs for Finland through defence innovations. Digia will significantly strengthen our network with its software and application expertise and solid experience in the defence sector," says Teemu Seppälä, Technology and Innovation Director at the City of Riihimäki.
A new kind of platform accelerates the introduction of innovations for production use
As part of the cooperation, Digia is involved in the development of DEFINE's AI-supported integration and experimentation platform (AI Foundry). It allows new defence innovations to be efficiently tested and further developed for production. AI Foundry was introduced at the NATO Innovation Range event in Finland.
"AI Foundry can be used to test various AI pilots, for example, through NATO exercises, other innovation events, and field tests by companies. This enables faster transfer to production and the utilization of new solutions," says Henri Kivioja, CEO of IAM RAIN (Lempea Edge Ltd).
"AI Foundry is an effective way for us and DEFINE's other partner companies and start ups to present and test new ideas and services together with various NATO actors. It opens up completely new kinds of growth and development opportunities for both individual organizations and Finland's defence and security expertise as a whole," Palokangas adds.
