Digia renews the Finnish Ice Hockey Association's statistics and results service

The statistics and results service is the backbone of Finnish ice hockey, from where statistical data swims to many places for hockey professionals, coaches, media and other parties, among others. Reliable data is the core of ice hockey club activities – and the spice of the hobby for those who follow the sport.

The Finnish Ice Hockey Association has chosen Digia as its partner to renew the statistics and result service. The new agreement complements the previous agreement between Digia and the Finnish Ice Hockey Association on the reform of the competition and transaction system.

Together, these system renewals mean significant improvements for users in both background data and the usability of services. The launch of both systems will take place next summer, meaning that the systems will serve users during the 2025–26 season.

Statistics are used by the entire ice hockey community

Up to 40,000 official ice hockey games are played annually in Finland, from junior hockey to A-team games. The statistics and results service is used in all of them: the system stores all game events that are sufficient in a single game, from goals and assists to penalty shots and game clock readings.

From the statistics and results service, the data swims to different services, through which it is utilised by a large number of active users. The general public who follow ice hockey is hungry for statistical information, and it is used by referees, officials and other club professionals.

The statistics and results service is at least as important for the thousands of Finnish parents who monitor their child's goals, assists and other information.

Numerous interfaces to third-party services, such as media, will be implemented to the service.

Better digital services and synergies from cooperation with different actors

For several years, Digia has implemented services for hockey people as Liiga's digital partner, such as the Liiga's renewed website and the mobile applications of Liiga and Liiga clubs.

Cooperation with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association broadens the perspective from professional ice hockey to club operators and junior hockey players and their families.

"Well-functioning digital services play a part in making ice hockey attractive to a wide range of people. Through digital services, Digia plays a role in promoting both amateur and professional activities in the sport. Through our partnerships, we are also able to promote cooperation and the transfer of best practices from the federation level to clubs and vice versa," says Sami Paihonen, Director at Digia.
