Digia strengthens preparedness in Finland’s food industry and the national security of supply

As in previous years, Digia will participate in the TIETO26 preparedness exercise, which will focus on developing continuity management and preparedness in the food industry. The aim is to strengthen cooperation in exceptional situations and to keep Finland capable of functioning in all situations.

"Food supply plays a key role in ensuring security of supply. It has a direct impact on society's ability to function. Supply chains have largely gone digital, and this year we are practicing how to ensure the continuity of the whole and build preparedness. We also consider the international operating environment and global dependencies," says Antti Nyqvist, Head of Preparedness at Technology Industries of Finland and Digipool's Pool Secretary.

At the core of national security of supply are companies that maintain critical services, information systems, and production.

"Preparing in the digital society and ensuring digital security requires close and seamless cooperation between public administration, authorities, and companies. Together, serious disruptions are detected more quickly, and the overall picture of challenging situations is faster. At the same time, the ability to counteract the effects of the disruption and return to normal operations is created," says Juhana Juppo, Digia's CTO.

Digital security ensures the continuity, development, and growth of operations

Digia has a long history of building, maintaining, and developing critical ICT services that are critical to society and security. The company is also a partner of several food industry operators.

"Our operating and safety environment is constantly changing. However, according to our survey (in Finnish), only 15 per cent of Finnish organisations estimate that their operations can continue unchanged or almost unchanged in the event of disruptions," Juppo says.

"Businesses and public administration organizations need to develop their digital security and resilience. This is the only way to ensure the continuity and competitiveness of operations, as well as the national security of supply and security. In the TIETO exercise, we will be able to test practices and identify concrete development needs in a valuable way," Juppo adds.

The TIETO26 exercise is organised by the National Emergency Supply Organisation Digipooli in cooperation with the National Emergency Supply Agency, Traficom's National Cyber Security Centre, the police, and the Finnish Defence Forces. More than 180 organisations have signed up. The exercise consists of training days, pre-assignments for participants, and a role-playing game to be held in autumn 2026 to practice simulated disruptions across the information environment, cybersecurity, and the physical world.
