Traficom chooses Digia as its integration partner – its position in the transport sector will be strengthened
Traficom develops and harmonises its application programming interfaces (API) and integration services. Digia, which has solid experience in implementing integrations and APIs critical to society and security, was selected as the partner with an open-ended contract following competitive tendering.
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom's task is to build the best connections so that people, data, and goods move smoothly, safely, and sustainably. The agency supports Finnish society's operational reliability by improving the safety of transport and digital society.
"The API and integration services now tendered are a key part of our core mission. With the help of modern and secure API and integration services, we can ensure the safe and efficient use of data, which is why we also need to develop these services", says Mikko Väyrynen, Head of Department at Traficom.
Traficom's competitive procurement includes a design and delivery project for APIs and integrations, technical solutions, an integration team and continuous services.
"We have hundreds of different APIs and integrations with different systems, which we also develop, maintain and utilise in different ways. The solutions are also at different stages of their life cycle. We want to have access to a unified and more efficiently managed service package consisting of technical solution maintenance services and integration team experts. This enables uniform operating methods and centralised utilisation of technologies", Väyrynen adds.
Digia, the software and service company selected as the partner, is Finland's largest provider of integration services and one of the largest in the Nordic countries. The company has solid experience in socially significant and safety-critical implementations. In addition, customers can benefit from efficient and productized services.
"The digitalisation and networking of business increases the diversity of data sources. This often poses a challenge to the implementation and management of integrations. The ability to quickly and securely utilise data produced by one's own and partners requires a controlled approach. We are happy to expand our cooperation with Traficom", says Janne Tuominen, Digia's Senior Vice President, Managed Solutions.
The cooperation strengthens Digia's position as an operator in the transport sector and brings added value to the entire network
Digia has previously cooperated with Traficom in areas such as system development, but now it can also show its strengths in architecture, integration and API expertise.
"Traficom is a critical operator in our society that also requires its partners to meet high requirements and criteria. We can partner with them and help them achieve their goals and mission", Tuominen adds.
In addition to Traficom, Digia also cooperates with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and Fintraffic, which operate under the administration and guidance of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
"Our cooperation strengthens our position as a partner in the public transport sector and brings clear added value to our customers. The experience and expertise of the transport sector will definitely contribute to the success of the cooperation, and we see that we can bring a lot of added value to the management of the data ecosystem of the entire sector", Tuominen adds.
