AI helps to implement the EUDR - Digia's new service turns the directive into a competitive advantage
Digia's Digital Twin service helps verify the traceability chain of products and raw materials, enabling compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation requirements. The efficiently scalable, ERP-independent platform is a versatile tool for managing and utilising organisations' sustainability data. It can also be used in the implementation of a Digital Product Passport (DPP).
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) will take effect on 30 December 2025. Its purpose is to ensure that products used in the EU do not cause deforestation in other parts of the world.
For this reason, companies will have to accurately report on the origin of cocoa, coffee, soy, beef, wood, rubber and oil palm production.
"The schedule is very tight, and data collection and reporting are a laborious process. That is why we developed the artificial intelligence and cloud-based Digia Digital Twin service, which companies can use to trace and verify the origin of the production of raw materials for their products," says Ari Varpenius, Digia´s Vice President, Enterprise Solutions.
Digia Digital Twin includes a technical solution, services related to the package and interfaces for transmitting information from companies' business systems.
"When data flows seamlessly, the origin of a product and a sustainable supply chain can be properly verified ," Varpenius says.
In practice, companies can use the service to receive the DDS (Due Diligence Statement) of product batches required by EUDR from the previous operator in the supply chain or create them themselves automatically in the EU's Traces system. The identifiers are managed in the companies' own business systems. Still, all supplementary data is stored in the Digia Digital Twin service, which enables the production of data for analytics and reporting needs.
Productized solutions make everyday life easier and bring the necessary transparency
Digia Digital Twin is highly scalable and easy to utilise for other needs in accordance with EU regulations and Finnish legislation, such as the implementation of the Packaging Regulation or the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
"More responsible and intelligent business builds unique competitiveness and a more impactful future. To support the work, it is worth utilising ready-made productised solutions that make everyday life easier and bring the necessary transparency to consumers," Varpenius says.
The service is particularly topical for companies in primary production and the food, wholesale and industrial sectors. A few pioneers have already prepared for the deployment together with Digia.
"A similar solution does not yet exist on the market, or they have been implemented in a customised way. We have extensive experience in utilising the Digital Twin platform. Additionally, we possess market-leading expertise in integration, ERP, AI, and automation implementations. We are a comprehensive partner for our customers who are familiar with data, systems, sustainability requirements and the reporting solutions required by them," Varpenius adds.
