Fingrid chooses Digia as its data partner – cooperation continues with a €2.1 million contract

Digia is responsible for the development and maintenance services of the data platform deployed by Fingrid under an agreement valid until further notice. The cooperation will also renew the integration services as a whole and promote AI capabilities.

Fingrid is a Finnish transmission system operator and a critical operator for the security of supply. Its task is to secure the supply of electricity to customers and society and to develop the electricity system of the future.

"When society's electricity supply must be ensured in all situations, it requires continuous development, new solutions, and the ability to see the future before anyone else. We need reliable data for this, and we have invested significantly in the development of data-driven operations," says Fingrid’s CIO, Senior Vice President Kari Suominen.

Fingrid has boldly renewed its operating models and technologies, introducing, for example, a modern data platform in cooperation with Digia.

"Our data platform is the backbone of knowledge-based management. It has also brought completely new opportunities to utilize data and introduce AI solutions. It's great that we can continue the development with Digia," Suominen says.

"Fingrid is definitely a pioneer in the utilization of data and knowledge-based management. We are very happy to expand data capabilities and take advantage of the opportunities offered by AI. Fingrid is an excellent example of how a solid foundation can be used to build new, more competitive and more effective operations," says Minna Häkämies, Head of Data Insight at Digia.

Integration services are also being updated – a prerequisite for the use of data and AI

The effective use of data and AI requires efficient integrations.

In connection with the reforms, Fingrid identified the need to update its integration services, and Digia was selected as a partner following a tendering process.

"Together with our subsidiary Savangard, we are one of the leading data and integration experts in Northern Europe. It is great that we will be able to utilize our core competencies more comprehensively in the development of Fingrid's operations," Häkämies adds.
