Hankkija is modernising its agricultural input and brick-and-mortar business ERP system – Digia signs contract worth over EUR 2 million

Agriculture market leader Hankkija’s system modernisation will be overhauling all of the company’s agricultural input and brick-and-mortar business functions and will be implemented in all 54 of its outlets. Hankkija has chosen software and service company Digia as its partner. The two-year contract is worth more than EUR 2 million.

Hankkija Oy is overhauling its agricultural input, brick-and-mortar business, financial and point-of-sale systems. The systems package will be built on a cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, Supply Chain Management and Commerce solution.

“With this system overhaul, we are looking to achieve synergies that support all our business functions. Hankkija’s strategy emphasises seamless interfunctionality between all our business functions to ensure we can serve our customers better than ever. The new system is being designed in accordance with that strategy”, says Hankkija Oy’s CFO Rainer Karjalainen.

“The ERP solution is one of Hankkija’s core business systems. The chosen technology is in line with Hankkija’s parent company Danish Agron IT’s strategy, and with this overhaul project, we are building a modern ERP solution that will be part of the group’s international operations”, explains Digia’s Vice President, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Unified Operations Solutions Jarkko Savolainen.

“This system overhaul is a very important project for Hankkija, and those involved will be building and developing the processes we use far into the future”, adds Hankkija’s Director, Agriculture and B&M Mika Pänkälä.

Modern enterprise resource planning is a prerequisite for successful retail management

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, Supply Chain Management and Commerce enable the effective standardisation and automation of Hankkija’s agriculture and brick-and-mortar trade, as well as its logistical operational models and processes. The solution will allow for the management of business operations based on real-time data and make improving sales and the customer experience easier. The solution also supports the implementation of multi-channel customer service in key ways.

“In today’s environment, modern ERP is a prerequisite for success in business management. The Dynamics 365 system chosen by Hankkija is a scalable, future-proof solution that allows for business to be carried on in a smarter, more agile and more competitive fashion. The solution is part of Microsoft’s technology ecosystem, which, among other things, boasts extensive and constantly improving AI capabilities”, Savolainen continues.

Hankkija has been working with Digia to develop their business operations and the systems that support them for a long time, and this project represents an extension of that cooperation.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to modernise an industry leader’s ERP system knowing our solution will have a direct impact on their business success. With our experience and expertise, we are excellently positioned to ensure success. We employ one of Finland’s largest communities of D365 experts – more than 400 professionals – and we have no shortage of expertise and references when it comes to the commerce sector”, Savolainen says.

Preparations for the overhaul project are already underway between Hankkija and Digia. The implementation project begins in early 2024 with the goal of deploying the new system by the end of 2025. Hankkija Group’s net sales in 2022 amounted to EUR 958 million, and the group employs roughly 1,000 agriculture and brick-and-mortar business professionals.
