FINE modernized its digital service channels and strengthened security
FINE modernized its digital service channels with an information system solution delivered by Digia. The main goals of the transformation were to improve transparency in customer interactions and meet the strict security requirements of a highly regulated industry. The cloud-based solution centralizes communication on a secure platform and provides a strong foundation for controlled maintenance, continuous development, and future capabilities such as automation and AI.

FINE wanted to modernize its digital service channels, case management processes, and archive capabilities to better serve both private customers and financial service providers. As an organization operating in a highly regulated field, FINE faced particularly strict data protection and security requirements for its digital services.
After evaluating different technologies and vendors, FINE selected a solution delivered by Digia based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service, Power Pages, Power Platform, and SharePoint.
“We chose Digia because they understood and listened to our needs best,” says Anu Koskenvuo, CEO of FINE.
A Microsoft Dynamics 365 -based solution improved transparency and security
FINE’s previous environment had been built around an archival solution, and one of its main shortcomings was a lack of transparency. In addition, communication based on secure email was increasingly seen as a security risk.
With the new Dynamics 365-based solution, customers can now be served through a centralized platform. Private customers, financial service providers, and FINE specialists all have visibility into the processes, information, and documents relevant to them. All communication is managed through the platform.
“We improved transparency for customers by creating a secure portal where they can access all the documents they have submitted and view all communication between themselves and FINE in one place,” says Sara Uusi-Luomalahti, Project Manager for the initiative.

Meeting security and compliance requirements was a top priority
Because FINE operates in a highly regulated industry, data privacy and security were given special attention throughout the project. The work began even before the final technology selection, when FINE carefully assessed the cloud platform’s suitability for industry requirements. The evaluation continued throughout the implementation, with each component reviewed separately in cooperation with an external cybersecurity consultant.
“At first, I was concerned about whether cloud technology could meet regulatory requirements. After conducting a thorough evaluation and incorporating specific requirements into the contractual framework, we concluded that the solution met all essential requirements,” says Harri Isokoski, Lead Counsel at FINE.
The project required careful planning and extensive user testing to fulfill detailed regulatory security requirements. FINE credits the close collaboration between Digia, FINE’s internal teams, and the external cybersecurity consultant for enabling the project to be delivered on time and within budget.
“The collaboration between Digia’s architect and the cybersecurity consultant proved highly effective. Digia found the resources and solutions needed to address even the most demanding requirements that emerged during the project,” Isokoski says.
System implementation is only the first step
The solution is now fully deployed for private customers, and some financial service providers have already received access to their own portals.
The new system opens opportunities for FINE to further improve operational efficiency through enhanced reporting, automation, and AI. Digia supports FINE through continuous development services, enabling business needs and user ideas to be transformed efficiently into production-ready functionality.
“We have a roadmap, and the list of future development initiatives is long. We are still at the beginning of our journey with the system, but together with Digia we are committed to making it better all the time,” says Sara Uusi-Luomalahti.
Three key benefits
1. Secure digital service replaced email-based and manual processes
Communication and document exchange between customers, FINE, and financial service providers are now handled centrally through a secure customer service platform.
2. Greater visibility into case handling for all parties
Customers can track the progress of their cases, access documents, and review communication history without the need for separate inquiries.
3. A foundation for continuous improvement and future AI adoption
Dynamics 365 brings customer service, document management, and reporting together on a single platform. Supported by Digia’s continuous services and a shared roadmap, the solution can be maintained and developed in a controlled manner while enabling future automation and AI initiatives.
