Walki

Unified processes and systems are the basis for growth

In 2021, Walki began a major ERP and MES system renewal to unify processes and implement a modern business platform to support future growth. In the video, ICT Director Hannu Pääkkönen explains how the reform was successful and what it has made possible.

See how Walki renewed its ERP and MES systems together with Digia and Greycon, and how the modern Microsoft Dynamics 365 business platform enables international growth.

We needed a unified business platform. We wanted to digitalize our processes comprehensively and create a platform for future growth.  A new kind of transparency into the operations of the global network supports Walki in its goal of promoting energy efficiency and a waste-free future for the packaging industry.

Walki is a leading European manufacturer of packaging materials, with a focus on sustainability and a constant effort to develop its products into even more environmentally friendly solutions.

Five years ago, the company launched a project to modernize its ERP and MES systems together with Digia and Greycon. The company's processes were fragmented, and the level of digitalization was low.

"The systems we were using were outdated, which made it difficult to operate efficiently and grow," says Hannu Pääkkönen, ICT Director at Walkin Group.

The need to renew systems and integrate processes provided Walki with an opportunity to build a modern business platform to support future growth and development.

"We wanted to digitize our processes comprehensively."

"The main reason for starting the project was that we wanted to digitize our processes, starting from the supply chain and production, but also in finance. At the same time, we wanted to create a platform for future growth," Pääkkönen says.

According to Pääkkönen, the role of partners in a long-term company-level project is crucial.

"We have absolute confidence in Digia's and Greycon's expertise in software and technology, as well as in their ability to lead and steer the project in the right direction," says Pääkkönen.

Digia and Greycon are also pleased with the cooperation.

"This international project was an excellent example of the close cooperation between Walki, Digia and Greycon. We were able to utilise our expertise in the manufacturing industry, and I am very glad that Walki is pleased with this global deployment," says Jarkko Savolainen, Vice President at Digia.
